  1. This may have already been pointed out to you but, regarding black people in Man of Steel, Laurence Fishburne plays Perry White, editor in chief of the Daily Planet. He can be seen briefly in the trailer running away from explosions/buildings crumbling, alongside Amy Adams' Lois Lane.

Also, Harry Lennix (another Matrix castmember, though he'll always be Dollhouse's Boyd to me) stars as General Swanwick, who I expect to be some kind of antagonist or something, since the film seems to have a strong military/government versus Superman story at play and a clear scene of Superman in custody.

They're probably the only two in the film, unforunately, but they're there. And I'm genuinely excited to see Fishburne as Perry. I would doubt they would cast an actor of Fishburne's caliber if they didn't have a sizable part for him in the film. Perry is always a wonderful presence in the Superman mythos and this is an interesting and welcome shift from old white dudes like Jackie Cooper, Lane Smith, Frank Langella, and even Michael McKean in a couple appearances on Smallville.

P.S. I ALSO GENUINELY LOVE 'THE SANTA CLAUSE' but was reeeeeeally unhappy with the sequels. (though to be fair, only saw them once, whereas the first remains an annual tradition)

P.P.S. There is no Monsters Inc. Christmas special but you were probably thinking of Monsters Vs. Aliens that was released with the Shrek and Madagascar specials and the like. The Madagascar one is actually pretty funny and I thought the How To Train Your Dragon one was very nice. The other Dreamworks specials are just so-so.

P.P.P.S. It's not exactly "dark" but one of my favorite Christmas specials that always made me very sad was the Christmas Eve on Sesame Street special that has Ernie and Bert in a 'Gift of the Magi' situation and Big Bird stays up all night, all alone, on the roof waiting for Santa Claus, because Oscar made him worried that he'd never be able to deliver presents to a building with no chimney, and he gets all blue and frozen and it always made me so sad because nobody knows he's up there all alone and they think he's gone missing. It all ends happily, of course, but it cemented my love of sad, contemplative Christmas stories at a very young age.
